Season of Lent Activities

The season of Lent, the six weeks leading up to Easter, is a time of intensive reflection on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus and what his acts on our behalf mean to us and for our world. Lent begins on February 22nd. The following are offered for your spiritual nurture:

1)   Ash Wednesday worship service—February 22. Shared with the United Methodist and First Christian congregations at the Methodist Church. The worship service will begin 5 p.m. with a potluck meal following.  The theme of the service is “Loose the Chains.”

2)   Annual Lenten Study Lunches—February 29, March 7, 14 and 21 . Meal begins at 11:30 a.m. with a brief spiritual discussion following. No reservation necessary.

3)   Lenten Devotionals will be available starting next Sunday, February 12. They may be picked up (one per family please) on the tables at church entrances.

4)   One Great Hour of Sharing—Special offering to help people around the world who are suffering from natural disasters and other forms of human suffering. Please see display starting February 26th.

5)   Waffle-Raffle Breakfast—March 11. A mission fund-raiser hosted by our youth.

6)   Maundy Thursday Tenebrae service—April 5. A service of candles, music and communion to remember the final mandate of Jesus to love one another as he has loved us. Shared with the United Methodist and First Christian congregations at the Presbyterian Church. Gathering will begin with a potluck meal at 6:00 p.m. with worship service following at 7:00 p.m.

7)   Good Friday worship service—April 6.  This worships service, which offers reflections on the meaning of Christ’s death, is hosted by the Salida Minister’s Alliance and will be held at the Presbyterian Church starting at 12:15 p.m.

8)   Easter Sunday—Two worship services will be offered at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. (no 8:00 a.m. service). Besides the the blessing of the Salida Brass, our special guest this year is Pontius Pilate.
